Origami Fashion

This week, I was introduced to a new apparel making technique. The art of origami fashion.

Origami Dress
Origami is the Japanese paper-folding art. Intrigued, I researched ideas and looked at plenty of photos and videos, coming to the conclusion that it's amazing! Some of the three-dimensional elements take the designs to an all new level, and I became completely impressed.

I constructed my very first paper crane today while watching videos of the TR Cutting School by Shingo Sato. Like the fashion technique, it's quite complicated, but the results are worth it. When you have the time, check out some of the videos. Here are a few noteworthy pieces that caught my eye:

Bebe Dress... a more everyday wearable 3D piece.

Beautiful Design by Thierry Mugler. Very strong angular pieces and sharp direction of the shoulder.
The Shingo Sato Sleeve. Amazing 3D sleeves to add interest to the design.
The best part is that the TR youtube channel features tutorials so that you can start your very own origami fashion project! Take a look at some and try the techniques on a smaller scale. If that's too intimidating, practice some plain ole' origami first. When you're ready, dive in!

With Love,
Cookie
